June 9, 2016 — State Representative Martin Howrylak and Michigan Governor Rick Snyder issue an Honorary Tribute to Jim Forrer in recognition of his exemplary work as a community volunteer.

Granite City Food & Brewery supports Helping Angels Charity by sponsoring a food/donation drive in October and November 2015.

Jim Forrer received the 2012 Claude Pepper Award for his volunteer work with seniors.

As a volunteer police cadet, Jim Forrer supports the City of Troy police department.

Claude Pepper Award is presented to two individuals whose professional or volunteer efforts have made significant contributions to improving the lives of Michigan seniors, particularly those whose access to health care services may be hindered by physical, mental, financial or geographical limitations.

 

James Forrer of Troy, 70, recently started his own nonprofit organization called Helping Angels,  a Charity that dedicates time, compassion and resources to helping others. Forrer is also an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Area Agency on Aging 1-B, Salvation Army, Shoplifters Anonymous and Troy Police Volunteer Corp. Additionally, Forrer has worked as a motivational speaker working with Fortune 500 companies and high school students.

 

The Blues Senior Advisory Council has honored outstanding senior citizen advocates with the Claude Pepper Award since 1990. The award is named after the late Claude Pepper, the U.S. Congressman from Florida who was one of the principal sponsors of the Older Americans Act of 1965 and a major force in strengthening Social Security and Medicare.
